Montgomery City Public Library
Present: President Patti Pazdera, Vice President and Acting Secretary Theo Tate, Treasurer Jim Guffie, Library Director Gaylee Harris, Members Jamie Bukovac, Mark Clements, Pat Garrett and Molly Taylor.
The Montgomery City Public Library Board of Trustees meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by President Patti Pazdera. The agenda was approved. The consent agenda was approved.
Gaylee Harris presented the Board Training that included the upcoming Stuffed Animal Sleepover, which finished on Oct. 7 and had a theme called “Up, Up and Away.” There were 27 participants in the annual event. A hot air balloon was displayed at the meeting.
Gaylee Harris presented the Library Director’s report.
Jim Guffie discussed the United the Libraries Banned Books 101 webinar. He said there are three things to stand for as a library: Libraries have to be concerned with literacy, be concerned with having outreach and communication and be concerned with library regulations.
The programming committee of Jamie, Jenny, Molly and Theo will meet at 1 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the Community Room.
The grant committee of Pat, Patty, Mark, Gaylee, and Jim met on Sept. 16. The committee’s goals are to get a Smart TV for the reference room, two desktop computers, and three laptops.
According to Gaylee, the water heater was replaced. There is hot water in the kitchen and the bathrooms, but it’s not making its way to the office as the water is lukewarm.
Erik Schettig’s presentation was accepted to the ITEEA Conference on April 2-5 in St. Louis. He will be registered for the conference. He said the board members are not required to be registered unless they want their names on the program or to visit the vendor area.
Use of excess funds was discussed. Pat, Patti and Jim made plans to have a meeting with Linda at City Hall. Mark made the motion for the three to have the meeting. Pat seconded. The board approved.
Plans for National Friends of the Library Week, scheduled for Oct. 20-26, were talked about. Theo plans to write a follow-up story on the MCPL Friends of the Library group and what its plans will be in the future for the Oct. 23rd issue of the Montgomery Standard, Joan Treis will make a Facebook post celebrating the group, and the board will present the Friends with goodies and snacks for the book sale. Mark made the motion for those plans to be made. Jim seconded. The board approved.
There were no patron comments.
There was no executive session.
Pat moved to adjourn the regular meeting at 7:51 p.m.
